In this ongoing course, students will be introduced to letters each week. We will learn the letters and their sounds. The students will learn explicit phonics skills required for fluent readers. Students will read, write, and comprehend leveled and phonetic text.
How do you learn to read? Well, you start at the very beginning. The very beginning is individual letters. Children need to know the sounds and names of the letters in order to begin to read. In this ongoing class, we will focus on a letter each week to get your child ready to read. We will start each day by singing the ABC song and doing some quick activities to practice letters we know and are learning. We will do some calendar activities as well. We will then dive into a focused activity that will reinforce our learning of the letter for that week. We will discuss the name and sound of the letter. We read a book each day to work on literacy skills. There are sight words that we will be working on and reviewing throughout each week. We also practice counting, one-to-one correspondence, shapes, sorting, and colors.
