How does a Multi-Day Course work?

A Multi-Day Course meets multiple times over one or more weeks. Learners join the teacher in live video chat sessions at scheduled times. Outside of these sessions, they can take part in a classroom discussion group and message the teacher directly. Longer courses create more opportunities: real-time activities, engaging projects, and interaction with diverse classmates from other states and countries.

Class Experience

Students will be using the Montessori Moveable Alphabet to learn to blend the phonics endings. We will be reading stories with the following phonetic endings.

  • Class 1 AT hat, bat, sat, mat, cat, fat, pat, rat, vat
  • Class 2 IT bit, fit, hit, lit, pit, sit, wit
  • Class 3 ET met, set, bet, get, let, net, pet, wet
  • Class 4 OT cot, dot, got, hot, lot, pot, rot, tot
  • Class 5 UT but, cut, gut, hut, nut, rut
  • Class 6 AN ban, can, fan, man, pan, ran, tan, van,
  • Class 7 IN bin, fin, pin, tin, win
  • Class 8 OB bob, cob, fob gob, job, mob, rob, sob,

The words will focus on the short letter sounds of the words. Since these same sounds will be used with the different endings, it would be beneficial to the student to enroll in each class and build on their knowledge base of blending the different sounds. The class would be structured as a phonics class. The students would learn to blend and then practice using these blends in simple sentences.

Not Required

It would be helpful if the students knew the letters of the alphabet, but this is not required. We will work on blending the letter sounds to make rhyming words with the same ending sounds.

Will be given at the end of the class

The learner will be assessed by having the teacher listen to their pronunciation of the rhymed words.
