I will teach the rule, and then have children spell words. They will be asked to spell the word, and then check to see if it is spelled correctly. We will discuss why the word is spelled that way, and review syllables that were taught in the first Spelling Rules for Older children class. (Open syllables, closed syllables, r-controlled vowels, VCE words, etc) Homework with 10 spelling words will be assigned. The homework will need to be printed. It will not be turned in, but it is helpful if it is completed. Three times during the week the students will be asked to participate in more learning regarding the spelling rules or their spelling words. A question about a spelling rule or spelling word will be asked. (Can you find words that we haven't spelled that have a long o sound? or Use the spelling word moistness in a sentence. or Can you find a word with an open syllable and C + l-e syllable.)
