In this four weeks small group class, students will learn strategies and game plans in chess, in an active learning style. Students must know basic chess terms to proceed with this level.

How does a Multi-Day Course work?

A Multi-Day Course meets multiple times over one or more weeks. Learners join the teacher in live video chat sessions at scheduled times. Outside of these sessions, they can take part in a classroom discussion group and message the teacher directly. Longer courses create more opportunities: real-time activities, engaging projects, and interaction with diverse classmates from other states and countries.

Class Experience

This class is for students who know the basics of the game of chess. This is to develop their skills further in the game and ensure that they can participate in a few tournaments. As we delve deeper into the game, we will learn how each piece is vital and moves. Apart from reading the board and predicting, students will focus on chapters that entail, in no particular order for these 4 weeks:

  • Skewer

  • Discover attack
  • Removing the defender
  • Scholar's Mate, Fool's maete and copy cutter trap
  • Counting the no. of supporters
  • Hanging Pieces

These chapters will be covered one at a time during the class. The learners will play the game with the teacher. Notation and various puzzles will also be used to ensure that the students understand the chess moves and the concept of each chapter.

About Me

Punit Basu, an organiser, player and coach and has been teaching for around 5 years. He has taught 500+ students from different countries and his accomplishments are : International FIDE rated player and certified coach by All India Chess Federation and his current rating is 1824 on and lichess rating is over 2000. Apart from this he is 2 times district champion in U-19 Category and state runner up and was also selected for U-19 National Championship 2016. His coaching experience is of 5 years and has produced players who have performed extremely well in District, State and National level tournaments.
