How does a Multi-Day Course work?

A Multi-Day Course meets multiple times over one or more weeks. Learners join the teacher in live video chat sessions at scheduled times. Outside of these sessions, they can take part in a classroom discussion group and message the teacher directly. Longer courses create more opportunities: real-time activities, engaging projects, and interaction with diverse classmates from other states and countries.

Class Experience

A harmonium in English is called a pump organ or reed organ. In India harmonium is generally used for a variety of purposes like Kirtan, bhajan, and Sur riyaz (singing practice). If you do ‘saregamapa’ practice with harmonium every day you considerably improve your voice as well as your proficiency in playing the harmonium. So it's the best of both worlds. Harmonium, also called Reed Organ, free-reed keyboard instrument that produces sound when wind sent by foot-operated bellows through a pressure-equalizing air reservoir causes metal reeds screwed over slots in metal frames to vibrate through the frames with close tolerance.

Harmonium is one of the oldest musical instruments used in India and its origin is a much debated one. Many old writings state that its origin dates back between the later parts of 18th century and 19th century. This instrument gained popularity as it has sturdy sound and also is easy to carry. Harmonium is used well with classical music like Hindustani classical music and Ghazal performances and more.

The aim of this course is to acquaint the student with the basics of Indian classical music. Thus, concepts like swar, raag and taal are introduced here, and the student is expected to learn some basic raags. It is only when these concepts are strong that the learner can take his/her next steps confidently. The lesson plans will be customised based on your interests, goals and level of knowledge.
