A Multi-Day Course meets multiple times over one or more weeks. Learners join the teacher in live video chat sessions at scheduled times. Outside of these sessions, they can take part in a classroom discussion group and message the teacher directly. Longer courses create more opportunities: real-time activities, engaging projects, and interaction with diverse classmates from other states and countries.

Class Experience

Learning computers is not as intimidating as you think. Once you learn the terminology and the lingo associated with computers, it will be a lot easier to understand the computer world. In this 6-week course, you will start by learning computer terminology, the basic concepts of computers and how they work. Then you will move on to identifying and defining the key functional components of a computer. As the course progresses, you will learn hardware and software components which are so important in computers. As weeks progress, you learn about the Internet, social media, and how to protect your computer. COURSE OUTLINE Week 1: 1. Computer Terminology 2. Binary Codes 3. Types of Character Encoding 4. Computer Storage and Memory Measurements 5. Functions of a Computer Week 2: 1. What is the CPU? What are the parts of the CPU? 2. GPU 3. What are some of the input devices? 4. What are some of the output devices? 5. What are some of the storage devices? Week 3: 1. Categories of software 2. Operating System -- Definition, Functions 3. Exploring the GUI 4. Booting, device drivers, malware 5. System utilities or utility software 6. Application software 7 . Programming language Week 4: 1. Computer Networks 2. Types of Networks 3. Network Topologies 4. Network Hardware: network cables, NIC, repeaters, switches, routers, and modems 5. Network Operating Software 5. Firewalls
